Mount Pleasant Tips – How To Determine If Your Dog Needs Medical Care?

Try these simple tips to determine if your dog needs an appointment with Mount Pleasant Veterinary-

Dog’s Temperature

Checking your dog’s body temperature is the first way. Rectal thermometers are available for dogs and you must have one at your home to ensure that you can check if the dog needs medical attention. The thermometer must be inserted only after the use of a water soluble lubricant on the tip of the thermometer. A dog’s body temperature is usually between 98 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bleeding

Any bleeding dog requires attention. But before you go to a vet, check for the source of bleeding. Slow it down using a sterile gauze pad on the wound and apply light pressure. If required, cut away the surrounding fur and then take him to a doctor. Eyes, nose, inner ear or anal bleeding requires immediate attention.

Discomfort

Dogs do try to communicate their pain. So, keep watching your dog for any signs of discomfort or pain. Symptoms usually include limping, yelping and howling. Sometimes, dogs may also represent their pain through panting or rapid breathing, slow swallowing or teeth grinding.

Take him to a doctor immediately if it is complemented with vomiting.
